God’s Plan For Us

How did I get here? That’s a question we have all asked at some point. Whether our life doesn’t look exactly like we want or we know about God and just feel that we are distant from Him, we all feel a need to have connection and purpose. When God created the universe, He also created mankind. When He created mankind, He had a plan in place for each one of us.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

God’s plan for us is to have a close relationship with Him. When we do that He works in our lives to prosper, or improve, our lives because His plans are good. But because of our sin we are all separated from God. Why is this? Because God is good and holy. Man is not.

“…For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23

Sin is in each one of our lives and because of this the consequence for our sin is eternal death. But there is hope…

Jesus Christ

When sin entered into our lives, we were separated from God. God also could not allow sin to go unpunished because He is a holy and just God, but because God loves us, He did not want us separated from Him for all eternity. In order to bring us back to Him, a sacrifice was needed to pay the price for the sin in our lives. Jesus was that sacrifice.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23

How was Jesus able to be the sacrifice for us? Jesus was the Son of God. He chose to come to us and be born as a part of mankind. Even though He was a man, He lived a sinless life. This meant that Jesus did not deserve punishment for any sin. However, Jesus chose to pay the penalty for all our sins by dying on the cross. He took our place and our punishment and was sacrificed for the sins of all the world.

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Christ’s Sacrifice & Salvation

Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, the gap between God and man was bridged. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and because of His sinless life the power of death could not hold Jesus. After dying on the Cross, He was raised from the dead (resurrected) on the third day. Through His death and resurrection, we received forgiveness of our sins and are able to have eternal life with God.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

How do I receive eternal life/salvation?

We receive salvation and eternal life by receiving Jesus Christ (and His sacrifice for our sins) into our lives. By doing this we choose to turn away from sin and receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior. When we do this, God promises that we will be saved.

“…if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” – Romans 10:9

So what does receiving Jesus look like? If you would like to accept salvation it is not a complicated process. All you have to do is decide to turn away from sin and confess that Jesus is Lord of your life. If you are ready to take that step, you can pray the following prayer and accept salvation.

Prayer of Salvation

Heavenly Father, I confess that I have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. I am sorry for my sin and ask for Your forgiveness. I no longer want to be separated from You. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the Cross for my sins. I thank You for sending Your son and believe that He was raised from the dead. I turn away from everything that I know to be sin and receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I choose to follow and obey You for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
